social responsibility

Pepsi Bottling Group and GÖZDER, Foundation of the Visually Impaired helped create a distinct atmosphere during the dragon event last year. Contestants rowed their paddles rhthmically and synchronously with the beating of the drum. Pepsi employees even went so far as rowing their eyes blindfolded during training sessions.
Dragon boat competitions are being embraced as a protective and therapeutic method against breast cancer especially in Canada and United States. There are more than a hundred dragon boat teams assembled for these purposes in Canada alone and they are organizing a festival among them each year and distribute the profits to funds.
Fire department, motorcycle police (Yunuslar) ve various other public bodies other than corporations are expected to participate at the festival as part of social responsibility projects.

"We are at Feshane in the Golden Horn at the last day of May. The rowing competition as part of the Dragon Boat Festival is about to begin. The tents of the teams to compete are crowded; people running around on green grass, relaxing, chatting all over; pressmen, photographers; all add color to the progress of the day with the music in the background emanating from the festival tower adorned with Far Eastern patterns.

There is a peculiarity of the rowing competition; this is an organization which women who had breast cancer all over the world are interested in and participate at. Because scientific studies conducted showed that women with a history of breast cancer who participate at these competitions where paddles are rowed in rafting or canoe style are in much better shape both physically and mentally and deal better with the trauma caused by the disease."

foundation of the visually impaired-Pepsi

This study is conducted among young visually impaired people who are members of (GÖZDER) and Pepsi Bottling Group (PBG) employees. The team composed of eight GÖZDER members including President Bülent Kelleci and nine Pepsi employees. participated at the Dragon Boat Race at the Golden Horn. Each time the drummer hit the drum, rowers pulled the oars. These races have turned into an advantage for the visually impaired in the PBG team since the moves are made according to sound. Even Pepsi employees closed their eyes while rowing from time to time during training to adapt. "Each weekend our families, kids come to the training. And we made aware not only our but the families of all PBG employees of the reality regarding the visually impaired in the society.  So we learned where they had difficulties, where they entertained, what their expectations were. Rowing also is a very appropriate sport to become a team, to transcend to 'us' instead of 'I'."
